The town Vilafamés is an authentic historical and cultural jewel in the Province of Castellon. A village of artists and fine wines, hides in its streets and corners and it is full of places that are really worth discovering.

It is located high in the Sierra de les Conteses and has an enviable natural environment which is emphasised by the vineyards of the wines of the area.

The village has 2000 inhabitants and is the perfect place to escape for a relaxing few days. It is near to the Province’s capital, Castellón de La Plana but far enough away from it all to enjoy the tranquility of the natural environment.

Despite not being very large, the village has several points of interest such as the contemporary art museum, its castle from the Muslim Age, its various chapels and churches or its artistic, historical streets at the top of the village, which have been declared of special cultural interest. You can also find the Roca Grossa: an impressive geological formation, located in the middle of the village on the road from the Font.

The Vertical Garden, a hotel-restaurant chosen as one of the best in Spain in rural tourism, is also situated in the village.

You can take a walking tour of the old town from the Plaza de la Fuente, it leads you up to the Roca Grossa, from there and by the cobbled street Cervantes and Church Street. From there you can walk to the Plaza de la Sangre to admire the church of the same name and opposite the old Casa de la Vila, of medieval origin. From this square you access the Quartijo where the oldest buildings in the town are located and climb the steps to the castle of Arabic origin. Moving down the streets called Pilar and Diputación you can observe many beautiful facades before reaching the Museum of Contemporary Art in the Palacio del Batlle. The Town Hall, in an old manor house, is within walking distance.

Vilafamés cuisine features local, delicious and very well prepared local products. If you like to eat well, you will find many good restaurants in this town. Typical dishes include the Vilafamés stew; tombet, grilled meats with aioli and delicious almond sweets etc.
