Winter in Spain: 5 enchanting destinations

Published 12 de December de 2024
Now that the thermometer is dropping, it’s time to pack your bags and get lost in the winter charm of our towns and cities. But where do I go? The reality is that there are countless beautiful destinations in our country, but to help you out a little, we’re going to leave you with 5 that we’re sure you’ll get right.
  1. Granada, the Alpujarras Granadinas and the Sierra Nevada
To see the Alhambra from any of the viewpoints in Granada, with the Sierra Nevada in the background, covered in a blanket of white, is a spectacle worthy of admiration. And if you are looking for the thrill of winter sports, the Sierra Nevada has one of the best ski resorts in the world. The Alpujarras, on the other hand, are a winter destination par excellence. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, this region combines snow-capped mountains with charming white villages such as Capileira and Bubión. It has it all!
  1. Aragonese and Catalan Pyrenees
Winter turns the Pyrenees into a snow lover’s paradise. Resorts such as Formigal and Baqueira-Beret are ideal for skiing, while towns such as Jaca and Vielha offer Christmas traditions, winter markets and delicious local gastronomy. The combination of sport, culture and nature makes this region an unmissable destination.
  1. Castellón: Corners of tradition and nature
The province of Castellón is full of charming villages that are ideal for winter. Morella stands out, with its medieval castle and cobbled streets, but don’t forget Culla and Ares del Maestrat. Vilafamés, another must, offers a combination of history and spectacular views from its fortress. The gastronomy of the region, with dishes such as olla de pueblo or ternasco, is the ideal complement for cold days.
  1. Malaga: winter with a Mediterranean breeze
Although famous for its beaches, Malaga has much to offer during the colder months. Winter is the perfect time to explore the city’s cultural riches without the hustle and bustle of summer. Take a stroll through the old town, visit the Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre, or enjoy the Picasso Museum. The city also sparkles with Christmas markets and the spectacular lights of Calle Larios. If you prefer something more relaxed, head to the nearby white villages, such as Frigiliana, for a quiet and cosy atmosphere.
  1. Segovia and its Alcázar
Winter brings out the historic beauty of Segovia. Its Alcázar, which looks like something out of a fairy tale, is even more impressive at this time of year. From the tower of Juan II, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and the Sierra de Guadarrama, which is often covered in snow. The city is also famous for its roast suckling pig, the perfect dish to enjoy after a walk along the Roman aqueduct.   Have you already chosen your destination?
