The Day of The Paellas is celebrated on Friday the 22nd of January. It is one of the most looked forward to events of the calendar with the largest attendance of the public during the Fiestas of Saint Anthony Abad. This day, with a history and tradition of more than 27 years, began its life as a small paella competition and had now converted Benicasim into a culinary reference of the typical Valencian dish by excellence, the paella.
The principle streets of the town are filled with locals, tourists and visitors who make and enjoy their own paellas. Around the tables filled with aperitifs, tapas, wine and cold beer people wait for the sublime moment when the paella is ready to eat.
The Day of The Paellas is a tradition that has more than a quarter of a century, but it is not only paella, it is a full day of partying, charangas – a type of traditional Spanish band, live concerts and performances throughout the streets and corners of the town, filled with happiness and good vibes – a day to be fully enjoyed.
Because of its singular nature of the event which combines; tradition, gastronomy, parties and the participation of all levels of the Castellón and Benicasim society, in 2007 it was awarded the Fiesta of Provincial Tourist Interest.
Break out of the routine and enjoy fantastic example of a Spanish Gastronomic Party. More than 1000 paellas cooked throughout the streets and approximately 30,000 people live the party to its maximum. Good food, an unbeatable atmosphere and concerts for all musical tastes are the perfect elements for a break which we are sure you will want to repeat.
