The Wines of the Heirs of the Marquis of Riscal continue to write their history in the 21st century with the creation of the City of Wine, a project that signals a before and after in the way we understand the world of wine.
The City of Wine was defined within Project 2000, a strategic plan created by the company. This plan was based on creating a bridge between the 19th and the 21st centuries combining tradition with the avant-garde: the construction of a bodega (San Vicente) with the most advanced technology, investment in a new bottling plant, the installation of a laboratory for the control and analysis of the wine and general technological improvements to situate the company at the cutting edge of the industry and to guarantee that the wine produced is of the maximum quality.
The complex, located in Elciego (Álava), is comprises of the old Marquis de Riscal (1858) bodega, one of the oldest in the Rioja region, as well as a new building designed by the Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry, that incorporates the Hotel Marqués de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, a Wine therapy Spa Caudalie, 2 exclusive restaurants with consultant Riojan chef Francis Paniego, and in addition a meeting centre for conferences and banquets. Without doubt the City of Wine is the Spanish chateâu of the 21st century where you can enjoy the multiple experiences that wine offers, a world full of living sensations.
