Golf in Castellón

Publicado 19 de May de 2017 por admin

Are you tired or fed up with sun , beach and tapas ? How about a round of golf?

Here we show you some examples to practice this sport without moving from Castellon´s province .

Club de Campo del Mediterráneo (Borriol)

A spectacular golf course in the Valencian Community which has achieved worldwide fame for nurturing one of the world’s greatest players, Sergio Garcia, Ryder Cup star and 2017 winner of the Masters in Augusta.

An amateur golfer who plays on this course may be lucky enough to see Sergio practising his shots – an added reason for choosing to come here. On several occasions this lovely course has hosted prestigious national and international tournaments such as the Castellon Masters, OKI Open Spain Seniors Tour, Ladies European Tour and 4 Tours which acts as the Final for Spanish golf.

The great Australian, Greg Norman, otherwise known as ‘The White Shark’, winner of the British Open 1986 and 1983, after competing in the OKI Open Spain Seniors Tour in October 2006 remarked that  “This course really makes you think….there are blind shots. The course is unique… you really have to know where you want to go”. But it’s a delightful course to go round with many areas of natural shade thanks to its rich abundance of Mediterranean vegetation and fauna.

Club de Golf Costa Azahar (Grao de Castellón)

This charming, lovely little course is situated only 50 metres from the sea in the constant shade of palm trees and is an absolute jewel for those players who put great technique before long distances.

Its fairways bordered by palm trees are quite beautiful and the course has an enviable location just 6 kilometres from Castellon and 12 from Benicassim. You will be able to enjoy a natural course which is completely unspoiled.

As you play your shots you will be able to take in spectacular views of the blue Mediterranean Sea and also its unique aroma of pine and herbs. Its fairways are secluded and the palm trees have grown in all their splendour to limit the boundaries of the fairways and sometimes, perhaps, to penalise the bad shot too…!!

You really must always proceed in a straight line – something every golfer tries to do but not always with success. When you arrive at the greens you will see that they are not very big. How important is that approach shot!! You’ve got to get it just right and make sure the ball doesn’t go too far past the flag!

Panorámica Golf & Country Club (Sant Jordi)

The great German player Bernhard Langer who won the Masters in 1985 y 1993 flew over the 80 hectares of land and helped design the course which would later become the Panorámica.

It’s the only course in Spain undersigned by the German player. The design has an American feel combining everything a player would like to meet on a golf course: difficulty, recovery zones, variation, rich array of shots and finally, enormous enjoyment. Oh, and there are 70 bunkers between the tees and greens to keep the players in good company!!

In addition, there are lakes, wide and narrow fairways with large and fast greens. The terrain is flat allowing a comfortable stance but at the same time it’s challenging.
