We try to answer the most common questions and provide you with all the information you need to make your experience with Malco Rent a Car as simple and pleasant as possible.
How do I pick up my vehicle at Castellón Airport?
+-
At Castellón Airport we have a counter right opposite the exit as soon as you collect your luggage; it’s easy to find. In just a few minutes you’ll be on your way, driving towards your holiday.
Can I modify or cancel my booking?
+-
The free cancellation period is 24 hours before the start of the rental.
Can I reserve a specific vehicle model?
+-
When you make a booking you reserve the vehicle category, not the exact model. If you prefer a certain model, colour, or fuel type, tell us and we’ll take it into account; although we’ll do our best, we can’t guarantee availability at the time of rental.
How and when do I pay for the rental?
+-
Payment is made when you collect the vehicle if it hasn’t been made beforehand. You can pay by credit or debit card. The cardholder must be present at the time of payment, although the payer does not need to be the driver.
Is a deposit required?
+-
Yes. The amount of the deposit varies depending on the coverage taken out. For airport rentals your deposit will be returned within the next 7 days after the vehicle is returned.
Are there any surprises when paying? What types of coverage are there?
+-
At Malco we are ethical: no nasty surprises and no hidden charges. From the outset we give you the final rental price. If you have coverage with an excess (deductible), when the vehicle is returned with damage you must pay the amount of the excess for repairing our car, provided the damage was not caused by negligence; in that case you would have to pay the full cost of the repair. If a third party is at fault, we will refund the excess as soon as we have confirmation that the other vehicle has accepted liability. If you have coverage without an excess, in the event of damage—even if it is your fault—you do not have to pay for the repair of our car, unless it was caused by negligence and the conditions apply. Not covered in any case are the underbody and upper parts of the vehicle, the tyres, or the vehicle interior. By negligence we mean improper use of the vehicle, for example entering a very low garage with a high van, driving on a road unsuitable for vehicles, refuelling with the wrong fuel, unlawful driving, loss of keys, etc. In such cases the coverage does not apply and the customer must bear the full repair cost.
What documentation is needed to rent a car?
+-
For a one-off rental you will only need an ID card or passport, a driving licence, and a bank card on which the rental and the deposit will be charged and refunded. All documents must be original and valid.
What are the requirements to rent?
+-
Be at least 21 years old and have held a driving licence for more than one year. If you are 21 to 24 you can drive provided you obtained your licence at least one year before the rental date and you pay the young-driver surcharge. As for maximum age, we have no restriction as long as your licence is valid and you can drive without problems. Present your ID/passport and a valid driving licence (expired documents are not accepted). Originals must be shown when collecting the vehicle; photocopies or photos are not accepted. If you do not present a licence authorised for use in Spain, you will need to present an International Driving Permit together with your original licence.
Who can drive the car? / Can I add an additional driver?
+-
Only the people listed on the contract may drive the vehicle. Additional drivers can be added, provided MALCO authorises it (this entails an additional charge).
Can I drive outside Spain?
+-
No, our vehicles may only be used within mainland Spain, unless MALCO expressly authorises it.
Is the mileage unlimited?
+-
Except for certain rates, mileage is limited, but we’re flexible according to your needs. Tell us roughly how many kilometres you’ll drive and we’ll give you the best possible price. Normally our rates include more than enough kilometres.
What is the fuel policy?
+-
Full-to-full. Fuel is not included in the rental price. We deliver the car with a full tank and you must return it full as well. If you do not return it full, we will charge the missing fuel plus a refuelling fee.
Can I return the vehicle in another city?
+-
The vehicle can be returned at any of our offices, provided you inform us in advance. This service carries an extra charge. It is very important that you notify us beforehand so we can give you return instructions depending on the office you choose.
What happens if I have a breakdown or an accident?
+-
In case of a breakdown, call the roadside assistance number shown in the contract and assistance will come to solve the problem wherever you are. In case of a collision, whether it is your fault or the other driver’s, you must fill out an accident report (DAA); it is very important to complete it correctly.
What if I get a fine?
+-
If the fine is issued to you as the driver for speeding or any other infraction, the fine will be in your name and you must pay it. If the fine is due to a vehicle defect such as an expired ITV (roadworthiness inspection), the fine will be addressed to the vehicle owner, i.e. Malco, and we will take care of it.
Do you have automatic vehicles?
+-
Yes, we have both manual and automatic vehicles. When booking you can choose manual or automatic.
How much does it cost to rent a car at Castellón Airport?
+-
Renting a car at Castellón Airport typically costs €25–€65 per day. At MALCO, unlike other rent-a-car companies, the price already includes zero-excess coverage, in addition to other services. Prices also depend on the dates you choose, the number of days, the vehicle model, and how far in advance you book. Car-rental prices vary constantly with the market, so the quoted price is indicative only.
